A long or short questionnaire?<\/p>\n<p>The age and gender statistics from the 2011 census were revealed on Tuesday, May 29, 2012. In all, 33,476,690 people answered these questionnaires. The participants are divided as follows: 5,607,345 children from 0 to 14 years of age (16.7\u00a0%), 22,964,290 adults from 15 to 64 (68.6\u00a0%) and 4,945,055 adults 65 and older (14.8\u00a0%).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The data confirms that children who are 14 and under constituted 16.7\u00a0% of the population in 2011, which compared to 2006 is a reduction by 1\u00a0%.<\/li>\n<li>The working age population diminished slightly between 2011 and 2006 (-0.2\u00a0%). This negligible change is due to the generation of baby-boomers that are still active.<\/li>\n<li>Seniors (65 and older) represent 14.8\u00a0% of the 2011 population, which is an increase by about 1\u00a0% since 2006.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I found it interesting to compare the data based on gender.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For children from age 0 to 14 in Quebec, 15.3% are girls and 16.6% are boys.<\/li>\n<li>The working age population is made up of more males (69.3%) than females (67.1%).<\/li>\n<li>For adults in Quebec of age 65 and older, there are more females (17.6 %) than males (14.1 %).<\/li>\n<li>Lastly and for the category of adults aged 80 and older in Quebec, females (5.3%) outnumber males (3.0%). Note that these last two age ranges have more women than men.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Interesting, isn&#8217;t it? You will find more information on Statistics Canada\u2019s website.
