I concluded that, despite an intense patent war between these companies, there is a very interdependent relationship between them.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Exo Marketing\u2019s objective is to propose simple and informative articles for \u201cnon-experts\u201d in B2B marketing (for example <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exomarketing.biz\/\/en\/blog\/seo-strategies-in-b2b-and-google-adwords\/\">here<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exomarketing.biz\/\/en\/blog\/google-analytics-in-b2b-the-first-step-in-becoming-an-adventurous-manager\/\">there<\/a>). For the experts, I suggest you read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exomarketing.biz\/\/en\/blog\/market-research\/\">latest blog post by my colleague David<\/a>. For the rest of you, Google Trends is used today to make cross-comparisons of web searches on Apple and Samsung.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Google Trends: what is it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Google Trends is a free tool that can, with an analysis of search volumes, provide a general overview of the history and trends related to the interest generated by one or several search terms. This tool allows for competitive intelligence monitoring and makes available major regional and historical information as well as estimated future trends.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Apple and Samsung: interests for yesterday, today and tomorrow?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In our example, when you go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.ca\/trends\/explore?hl=en-US#q\">Google Trends<\/a> you can add \u201cApple\u201d then \u201cSamsung\u201d to the search terms. Once the graph below appears, you can click on \u201cForecast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This first graph demonstrates the evolution over time (past, present and future) of the search terms \u201cApple\u201d and \u201cSamsung.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Figures are good, but explanations are better!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some notes (identified with letters on the graph) explain the main recent variations. Thus, when you click on the peak identified by the letter \u201cF,\u201d you\u2019ll see that the increase in search volumes linked to \u201cApple\u201d in October 2011 can be explained by the death of its founder, Steve Jobs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>World, Wide, Who?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now if you enter the search terms individually (\u201cApple\u201d or \u201cSamsung\u201d), you will get the geographic origin. You\u2019ll see that the term \u201cApple\u201d is mainly\u00a0searched for in Western countries (the United States, Canada, Australia, Great Britain, etc.) while the search volumes for \u201cSamsung\u201d occur mostly in Asia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you want a doggy bag for the rest?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Still taking search terms individually, Google Trends also suggests a list of related terms (which can be displayed by top terms or by rising terms). This could be very useful for your content strategies.<\/p>\n<p>Once again, Google has made available to all managers a basic, simple and user-friendly tool.
